Yes, I can believe this. White women in the US have a very long history of getting Black men lynched (and in some cases, whole cities burnt to the ground) by lying about being sexually assaulted by some random Black guy.

This has not stopped happening either. Like the Susan Smith case (she just came up for parole. ) In the 90s, she lied about a Black man stealing her car and kidnapping her two little boys. It turns out she killed the two boys herself. There is also the Scott Peterson case where he shot his wife and accused a Black man of doing it.

There is the white woman (Amy Cooper) in the park, who was ready to call the police on a Black man because he asked her to leash her dog, and a white woman who accused a little boy in a bodega of assaulting her, when all he did was brush by her with his book bag.

This has happened so frequently in the US, that white people have learned that they can accuse a Black man (or child) of the most heinous crimes imaginable, and the police will believe them.

This has happened so often that there are multiple organizations (The Innocence Project and the Wrongful Conviction Project among others), which were created just to investigate accusations against imprisoned men, and they found that at least half of the Black men sitting in prisons have been falsely accused and convicted.

And this is thanks to the mainstream media which has for the past 100 years, has only ever associated criminal activities, like theft and rape, with Black and Brown male faces.
