Yep! I’m tired of every one of these which is why I am always on the lookout for characters who defy these tropes.

One big irony about the Black Widow character was that the MCU was spending so much time on focusing on her as a badass, that they completely neglected another badass female character, who got more screen time, and therefore more depth of character, than any of the other women in the MCU: Pepper Potts.

Hopefully in the new Black Widow movie, we will get to see that character change expressions a couple of times.

The only movie I ever saw with McCarthy, where her fatness was not her entire character, was in Ghostbusters. Her weight was never part of the storyline, and was never a factor in the humor. It just was. Other than that, you’re spot on, and I’m really starting to hate Rebel Wilson. I’ve pretty much stopped watching her for anything. Its just fat jokes all the way down.

One of my favorite non-angry Black women in a superhero film is Domino. Yes, she’s still a sidekick (one of several actually, so its no biggie) but she is the most capable person in the entire movie, and with her “good luck” powers, she never has a reason to be angry, as she casually saunters through the movie’s many dangers. Her character is really just a joy to watch.

Hollywood has gotten this idea that strong female characters must be ass kicking bad girls, when there are so many other ways to show a woman’s strength, besides beating people up.
