When people discuss Boomers they always seem to forget that some of them grew up progressive and some of them grew up marginalized. Mainstream likes to talk as if all these groups they made up for ratings are a monolith but we all have more in common than we think.
Boomers aren’t just white people waving flags and screaming about Q-conspiracies. That’s just a highly vocal subgroup. My mom was a Boomer. She was born right in the thick of it in 1950. She was a member of the local chapter of the Black Panthers, and an educator. I always try to keep things like that in mind when discussing different groups. They’re often nothing like they’re often described or shown in the media. There are a lot of layers, and some people tend to forget that.
The example I like to use is Evangelicals. There are two groups, white ones, and Black ones, and unfortunately a lot of the ones acting out are the white ones, but there’s nuance there too. I’ve met plenty of white Evangelicals who are standup thoughtful and compassionate people and neither look nor act like the screaming loons on mainstream TV. Look around you for the quiet people. The ones just going about their life and jobs. Most people are probably like that and deeply upset an puzzled by the loud mouthed, angry, and cruel people they keep seeing on social media.
