When it comes to issues like this I try as often as possible to take the long view. We always want immediate results from our activities but then I remind myself that banning smoking started in the 80s and took almost fifteen years to see any results, we lost a lot of lives in between, and there was a lot of pushback from well heeled tobacco companies.
The laws against drunk driving took almost twenty years to get enacted having started in the 80s as well, and during that time children kept dying.
Change is very slow, but we are making progress. We have to keep pushing and pushing on this issue, (and the issue of gun control in general). I have to believe reform will happen with this as it did with other issues.
