What they’re trying to do is remove white peoples culpability from these events. What’s divisive is white people feelings in the conversation, and their feelings about it take priority. They don’t want to feel bad while discussing something that makes the people who were on the receiving end of the event feel bad. The feelings of the Jewish, Indigenous and Black people who are hearing about these things are meaningless to these people. They want to say things things simply happened as if the events fell out of the sky and landed on Black and a indigenous and Jewish people like rain, rather than that another group of people CHOSE to do something to another group of people!
The Holocaust, chattel slavery, and the Trail of Tears didn’t just happen. These were choices made by white people to commit these deeds against other people to benefit themselves and that’s the part of the issue they’re unwilling to acknowledge. They’re willing to admit the events happened they just don’t want to admit white people did them.
