What I often say to people who ask if Black people can be racist, is Yes! We live in a society so steeped in anti-Blackness that Black people can indeed be racist - towards other Black people (and prejudiced towards other groups as well), but especially towards those Black people who live along some other vector of oppression than the racist, like being a woman, poor, disabled, gay, or trans! Why? Because Black people consume all the same racist information about our less- than status that white people do, and many of us don't think too deeply about the messages we're receiving unless those messages directly impact our own life. We call it self-hatred, but it is a form of racism.
