What I object to is their attitude that they know all they need to know about film, since they made a few good ones, and were lauded for those. They act as if these young, up and coming, film makers have nothing to teach them about film, about story, about their own craft, and that there isn’t more THEY could learn.

For me, the idea that a person doesn’t need to learn anything more about their craft, is a sign of real irrelevance.
