We also see this throughout Pop Culture in general. Like people who think a movie or tv series or musical style is "bad" because it doesn't personally resonate with them!
People who think Rap, Country Western , or Punk is bad music because they haven't heard any of it that appeals to them personally.
There was the guy who gave the Pixar Turning Red movie, ( about an Asian Canadian tween's shenanigans around her first period), a bad review because he said he couldn't relate to it and it was too "niche"!
There are the same guys complaining all over social media because Disney made a bunch of Star Wars and MCU movies and shows that are not centered around straight white male characters (even though they still make those kinds of stories). These men have created an entire online ecosystem that says stories that don't feature them in the center are all "bad" stories.
So I'm not surprised that this is still happening in Games, since that's where this online current iteration of bad faith judgements of popular culture began way back in 2014. It's been ten years and that crowd has simply moved on to making the exact same arguments, they made then, about the rest of the media we consume.
