Just like the Marquise, these are not the types of people who have ever been on the receiving end of “critique”. They’ve always been the ones to do the critiquing. Shaming those “beneath” them, those with less privilege, was always a power only they had. But now, thanks to social media, the actual culture can weigh in on their deeds, and give their objections, in a manner they couldn’t before.

I said to a friend of mine, we’re living in an age where those with less power can directly judge those with more. All those marginalized people that they use to have the privilege of canceling for being gay, or black, or women, are just openly “talking back” to them, and being “disrespectful”. It must be terrifying for them.
