Those at the top have spent the past few decades totally undermining the idea of community support and collective effort. Americans used to engage in collective effort to get what we needed, but we have been socialized for the past forty years to think individual effort and personal greatness is the end all and be all of accomplishing any goals. I have observed that all this going it alone and Individual effort just serves the status quo.

Most of society can’t get the things it needs because we’ve all been taught that working together for a goal, and taking care of each other is a worthless activity, and that it’s only individual effort (The Great Man Theory) that makes society great. And don’t get me started on how the “you must take care of yourself because no one else will” philosophy is a byproduct of racism anyway. American lawmakers have spent the past fifty years undermining every social safety net there is by arguing that those lazy Black and Brown people are taking advantage of it, and white people buying into that lie, which ends up shooting themselves in the foot to make sure that certain people don’t have a pot to piss in because they are “undeserving”.
