This was great! I love to hear people's stories about their real life interactions with horror movies!
I have a similar story of my first time watching The Exorcist. I was about thirteen or so, about the same age as the girl in the movie. I was not especially religious at that age. I remember asking my mother if I could watch it, when I was younger, but she said I was too young at the time, and to wait until I was older. Later, she thought I was old enough to handle it, so unlike you, I watched the television edit with parental supervision, but later that week while I was still haunted by having watched it, my hometown experienced an earthquake.
You best believe how fast I jumped out of my bed and ran to my mother's room screaming that the bed was shaking. I'm not sure if she knew I was panicked because of the movie or just because IT WAS A FRICKIN' EARTHQUAKE!! (because we don't normally get those in northeastern Ohio!) She calmed me down by explaining that her bed was shaking too, and why, but I still slept with her that night!. 😄
