This is a great idea. I learned to do this a few years ago. At first I'd make grand plans with myself and follow through on none of them, but I figured if I did micro-resolutions throughout the year, I'd be much more likely to get them done. I don't make resolutions on New Years Day. I do it whenever I feel like it, or I need to do it throughout the year. I also found that there's less pressure to get things done, and I end the year less stressed than when I started because I didn't finish something. Maybe these are called "soft resolutions".

Another thing I refuse to do is beat myself up for not finishing a resolution. If I do it, I do it. If I don't, I don't.
