This has been going on in film since pretty much the invention of film, this idea of white men needing to protect the lives and/or virginity of their pretty White wives and daughters, (although in this case, a pretty Latina, I guess.)
It started with White men avenging themselves against Black men in Birth of A Nation, and moved on to White men avenging themselves against Indigenous men in movies like The Searchers. Latinos made their debut in this trite narrative in the 70's, with White men avenging themselves against Black and Mexican gangbangers in the Death Wish franchise, and continued well into the 80s with Muslim extremists, and East Asian criminals as the bad guys. Really, the only thing that changes in these types of stories are the races, and nationalities of the kidnappers, traffickers, and/or home invasion-ers. The White man’s revenge drama could almost constitute its own genre of film.
Such a shame that the new Rambo has devolved to this lame and overdone storyline. I actually liked the previous films because they also had something to say about men and the meaning of war.
