They turn a blind eye because they lie to themselves about not being on the receiving end of their harm, when the truth of the matter is cops have one of the highest rates of domestic abuse of any profession. No matter how badly the police behave the people who worship law enforcement (and their families) will always be there to make excuses for theirs shitty character.
