These are some good points. I do try to make the distinction (at least in my head) between Anime, and other animated films because you're right. I've watched quite a bit of Anime (not as much as you or some others though) and there is a kind of innocence to a lot of it, which I find refreshing.

To be fair though some of the animated films I mentioned are not anime, and at least a couple of them aren't even American. I think Birdboy and Unicorn Wars is Argentinian.

Also, thanks for responding the way you did, I appreciated your viewpoint because I watch a LOT of animated stuff, but not all of it is Anime, and the distinction you made needs to be said. I am going to encourage you to turn this response into an actual article for Medium, (unless you've already done so). I'm also encouraging you to check out the animated videos on YouTube. I've found some real gems there. (Maybe I'll write about those sometime.)
