The only people making that claim are die hard film enthusiasts. Your regular movie going person, who goes to the movies to be entertained don't care if they're going to see a sequel, prequel, or original script! The movie just has to have the "right" vibe and be fun, and a lot of die hard film fans forget that when they're talking about movies.

I'm a die hard movie lover who will watch almost anything, but I try to keep in the forefront of my mind, from the time I see a trailer, to when I choose which movie to see, until the time I walk out of the theater: The movie is supposed to be fun and funny, and/or engaging, for ME! (I am the only person who gets to decide if I wanna see it, pay for it, and if I liked it when I finally did.)
