The first time I got catcalled I was ten years old. I’ve always known that the whole “catcalling is complimentary” excuse was pure bullshit!

I’ve had all manner of insane things yelled at me, even when it was blatantly apparent I was a very young girl. I think most women’s first experience with catcalling is when they’re children, and it’s usually from grown men!

The thing about compliments is both the giver and the receiver are supposed to feel good about it. When only the one giving the “compliment” is feeling good about it, then it’s called harassment.

Have you visited the websites Holla Back? It’s insightful, and full of stories of women coping with, and combatting, catcalling. On a global scale.
