The association of only white men and boys with autism is just incredibly high. All kinds of people are on the spectrum. Women of color are all but unheard of in autism circles. I, personally, had never even thought of autistic people being gay! That's how deep this goes.
I'm a Black woman on the spectrum (self diagnosed), and it is extremely rare for anyone to mention it. The discussion needs to move out into a wider racial/social/ identity narrative. How many Black people are on the spectrum? How many Asian Americans? or Latines? How many gay and lesbian PoC? And how does autism present itself in these cultures?
