Thanks for the answers! I was worried because there is a huge problem with racism in the US. So much of it is baked onto its very foundations, so Black people do concern ourselves a lot with how we will be received or treated when we travel abroad, especially to country's that have no real history with us. How much of our history in the US are they aware of and do they even care about it?
I am aware that Japan just doesn't have that kind of history with Black people, so I was willing to chalk it up to a lack of exposure for most of them, and not knowing any of the etiquette or protocol for interactions with us. I've been watching a lot of videos over the years from Black people who live on Japan and their day to day reception and interaction.
