Thank you for this point of view. I learned this from my Ukrainian friends that a lot of immigrants have no idea how complicated and intricate the social system is in this country and I learned not to expect them to know. I learned that if I was going to be friends with them I would probably need to teach them more about how my life as a Black woman is lived here. (I don't give the white people who were born here a pass on that though.)

There are people who were born here in this country, who live right next door to us, but who pay attention to nothing ,and know nothing about the other citizens, because they don't want to know. I imagine it's a little bit harder to find out (especially before the internet) what it's like here when you have lived thousands of miles away.
