I grew up in a bubble where I didn't know or meet any white people. I only knew them from movies and TV. I had an exalted notion of what they might be like because I didn't know any of them. I was disabused of my ideas of white people by the age of 16 and 17 when I started learning actual history, because I already knew they were lying about Black people and in college I realized how much white owned media had been lying to me about what white people were like too.
I know for a certainty that if I, a black woman, consumed and believed these messages about white people, then white people did as well, especially white men. And not just messages about themselves but about everyone else. So if you liked this part, wait for part two, which is coming soon!
