Speaking as someone who loves the MCU, I do think both directors have a point, in that it can sometimes be hard to tell directorial authorship by looking at these films. I took what he said to mean the more quirky, and personal styles of the directors ,where you can clearly see that a certain person did that. I can’t really tell the difference between the directorial style of the Russo’s, or Black Panther, or Iron Man, really. (On the other hand, Gunn, and Taika’s styles are unmistakable, so there’s that, but then I’ve also seen all their other films, and some of the others are kind of new.)

Also, I get that this may simply be a generational thing. I’m glad Scorcese chose to clarify, because I didn’t entirely disagree with what he said, although I was kinda hurt and pissed when I first heard of it. His generation didn’t grow up with their primary influences being graphic novels, and comic books. The commercialization of movies started revving up waaay back in the eighties, and our generation is the one from which many of the filmmakers of today, come from. The Indiana Jones, Die Hard, Star Wars franchises influenced them, too.

I do know I’m greatly interested to see what types of movies will be made in twenty years, by the generation that’s been the most heavily influenced by Japanese Manga. (I think we’re probably all in for a wild ride, and wonder if we’ll be making the same complaints.
