Some of it came from reading about how insular Japanese culture is, and a couple of them came from interviews of biracial people on YouTube (but that was several years ago), and some came from interviews by journalists of random people on the street, and Japanese people's reactions to biracial people doing major things in the society. But, again, the interviews were a few years old so things might have changed a lot since I saw them. I'm interested because I have plans to visit Japan (Tokyo and Kyoto) at some point in the future and I'm always interested in Japanese reactions to Black people.
From the information that has trickled over to me over the years, I had the impression that Japanese people didn't have the best racial track record, but I hope that has changed. It's not going to stop me from visiting there. I live in the US and our information about what the rest of the world thinks about anything is sporadic at best, and I'm willing to give the benefit of the doubt to the words of people who actually live there.
