Only this is actually a poison that can be remedied. There is an antidote for it but first requires that we acknowledge that we have been poisoned.

I was an adult when I realized just how transphobic I was. Not because I was trying to be, but because even though I thought I was being supportive of transgender rights, I still had a head full of ideas and images imparted to me over decades of cultural propaganda, and not knowing the etiquette surrounding how to engage with transgender men and women, and I needed to work on weeding all that out.

But I'm learning.
