One thing that I have not seen enough studies on is the effect of veganism on people with chronic illnesses, like diabetes, and high blood pressure. What if a person is living in poverty and has multiple chronic illnesses? My mother has diabetes and kidney disease. No one talks about how a vegan diet would affect a senior citizen with multiple chronic illnesses (who is so picky about what she will eat that she simply won’t eat at all when presented with food she doesn’t like. She eats so little, that I have reached the point where I don’t care what she eats, as long as she’s eating something.)

I also suffer form multiple illnesses, along with lactose intolerance, and now that I’m older, Im not capable of digesting some of the plant matter I ate when I was much younger. I and my mother cannot experiment with this until we find the right balance, because that might make us sicker. These sorts of things need to be talked about and studied.

Another thing I haven’t seen addressed is there are a lot of poor people who simply are not capable of accessing organic and fresh produce, or properly storing it long enough for it to be eaten. Fresh food spoils quicker, which requires more trips to supermarkets they may not have easy access to. It’s not just about veganism being cheaper. I see a lot of people advocating for veganism, and I don’t object to the idea, but for poor people this can get very complicated.
