One of the things “gatekeepers” forget is that just because a movie didn’t resonate with them, doesn’t mean there’s no resonance at all. So, he doesn’t feel anything when watching those movies. I get it. However, Scorcese is making the classic mistake of deciding something is worthless because it has no worth to him.

Just before the release of Endgame, a bunch of Youtube video essayists did this collaborative thing involving choosing one scene in the MCU, and elaborating on what that particular scene meant to them. I’ve watched maybe twenty or thirty of these videos, and while I didn’t agree with some, and am hard pressed to choose just one scene, it helped in understanding why people love these movies, and just how much emotional depth people see in them.

Scorcese should watch that series, and do well to listen to the audiences about why they love something, rather than just himself.
