Omg! I love this story already. If I were a little girl I would have too. I always loved such imaginative things when I was little, like The Snowy Day, about a little black boy simply exploring his snowed in neighborhood.

There’s nothing wrong with the uplifting stories we tell each other about race, because we need those, but we also need to see ourselves doing perfectly mundane things, silly things, and impossible things. We need to see ourselves in fantasies, the future, and doing all the things white heroes have always gotten a chance to do in such fantastical stories, slaying (or befriending) the dragons, having adventures, falling in love, flying spaceships.

We also need silly stories about the moon being out to get us, too.
