Okay this isn't even about programming or traditional roles for women. He needs to know how to take care of his body (which involves feeding it) when no one else is around to do it. His momma ain't gonna live forever, and perhaps not his wife either, and what if he has kids and a woman isn't around! There are going to be times when he is going to be alone and without a fast food restaurant nearby. He needs to know how to cook his favorite foods in that case. He ain't got to be a chef, but he does need to know which seasonings do what, whether or not something is spoiled, what temperatures to cook foods, how to scramble eggs, make cheese toast, or grill a steak.

A young man needs to know how to be self sufficient and learn how to feed and cook for himself (and possibly others) when there's no woman around to do it. When I was in college I met young men who could do nothing for themselves. They often got sick from making bad food. Teaching her son to cook isn't the problem, that's what she's supposed to do. It's her reasons for teaching him that at are kind of nasty and inappropriate.
