…but then a movie comes out giving us exactly that, insert Birth of a Nation, what happens? Boycott. Then The Woman King comes out touching on slavery and how it was wrong without focusing entirely on the enslaved people and their treatment, and instead shows us badass female warriors who weren’t overly masculine nor angry black women who were submissive, had an unbreakable sisterhood, and who were and still are respected and revered, although incredibly flawed as all humans are, and what happens? Boycott. I can’t take this seriously.
