Oh, I know that song! I loved it when it came out and haven’t heard it, or thought about it in years. Imma go find it and listen now, but I remember being very moved by it at the time!

I came to the conclusion when I was an adult, that I was fortunate to be just "cute" enough to spark the occasional interest, but not pretty enough to be distracting to a lot of people. And even then I would still meet women who hated me on sight, if I dressed well that day, or because my skin was lighter than theirs (or who knows?!)

ETA: Her name is Ani DiFranco! I remember being really into her in my late twenties!
