Not to piss on your article (I'm genuinely trying to add a new perspective ) , but I'm going to give you the respect of being blunt, and reminding you and all the other white people who believed it could never happen here:

It already happened here.

It already happened here because that's where the Nazis got a lot of their worst ideas.
Concentration camps = Indian Reservations/Ghettos/Redlining/Mass Incarceration of Black men
Human Experimentation = Medical experiments on Black and Brown women in the US
Planned genocide = Indigenous Americans and Special Schools for re-educating them.
The Black Codes and Jim Crow were state funded systems of terrorism and apartheid.

America has always been this way, it just wasn't happening to the fine, upstanding, productive, tax paying, straight, white citizens of suburban and rural America. As long as it was only happening to "those who deserve it" somewhere else in the US, white America was willing (as it has always been, especially about the horrors that weren't directly affecting them) to walk past it, like AIDS pandemic various drug epidemics, police brutality, homelessness, housing and financial scams, political corruption, etc.

The only difference is now it's extended (and/or wants to extend) all these horrors past to regular, everyday, suburban, white people. It turns out that the Powers That (Wanna) Be, didn't actually care about any of you at all, which those of us on the receiving end of all of the above, kept trying to tell the rest of you.
