Nearly my entire family has been diagonosed with Type 2 diabetes. Some of them are gone now. Even my mom had it and they almost didnt catch it in time becasue she eventually had to do dialysis.
But forewarned is forearmed. I was warned it might happen and started cutting out the sugar before I was diagnosed as pre-diabetic. I caught it early and managed to stave it off for almost twenty years before I was started Ozempic becasue despite my efforts the A1C was creeping.
But you got the right attitude. I had to rethink my relationship with food and quit stressing about food as something good or bad or my enemy. I cut the things from my diet that I could: Fried foods, sugar (except for my tea), all sodas, and soft drinks, most processed foods, and fast foods. I ate more fruits and veggies and I don't beat myself up if I have an occasional lapse (because stressing about food will catch up to you too.)
