My Mom loved that movie! I was maybe ten or twelve when she watched that movie with me, and that scene was galvanizing. It was the 80's when I saw it, but it had a profound effect on my thinking about how to behave around white people (up to then, I hadn't had much experience being around them, having grown up in an all Black environment): to walk proud, with my head held high, and act like I belonged exactly wherever I was!

It wasn't until many years later, when I watched that scene again in a Yotube video, that I realized how much of how I behaved in public was due to that. (My mother knew exactly what she was up to by exposing her impressionable daughter to such films!)
