One small blind spot though: The phrase “product of their time”, I’m going to disagree with. I don’t believe any such thing.
There were plenty of people around at the time who knew what these people were doing was wrong, but had no power to affect it, most notably, the victims themselves.
They most certainly would have know what was happening to them was horribly wrong, so to say men like Churchill were a product of their times, implies that everyone in that era believed as he did, and acted as he did, and it treats the sentiments of his victims as being less important than the opinion of those who supported him.
Unless of course you meant something else, in which case, never mind!
