I've said before that most men benefit from other men's willingness to commit violence against women. They know the next time he asks, that a woman who has experienced violence might be compliant to his request, and he need not threaten her to get what he wants. Other men's violence keeps women in line and in their place. It keeps her from saying no to him if she's afraid violence might be the result.
