I’ve been saying Americans are some deeply, and I mean deeply, ignorant people whose sole knowledge of history and literature comes from century-old whitewashed Hollywood, and of only the last thirty years! They know nothing except what they’ve seen on a movie screen and coupled with their short attention spans only remember anything from the past thirty years of film and TV, and only if it involved white people.

Black creators have been adapting these types of old stories for Black audiences for almost as long as Hollywood has existed but people like that also wouldn’t know about the history of Black film either.
