It’s not that you feel your compassion draining away, so much as compassion fatigue! You’re just tired! I’m tired! I don’t have any more compassion to give. What a surprise to find that giving a damn about people is a finite source.

I have some left for the people who will suffer the after effects of someone else’s willfull ignorance, like all the children these people have left behind, but I have nothing left for them that’s dead.
