It's funny to me how "nepotism" suddenly became an issue only after Black celebrities started engaging in it, (from the generations that did great things in the 80s and 90s.)
As far as I can tell no one gave a hot sh*t as long as the celebrities were white. Now suddenly we have everybody's hot wrong and loud take on how I wrong and unfair Nepo-babies are. I guess they didn't have energy for criticizing it when it was only white people who had legacies!
ETA: Im not saying nepotism is a good thing or that it shouldnt be called out. I’m not even saying that the people who are suddenly calling it out are racist, because there is always the “bandwagon effect”. It’s just funny to me how this has suddenly became the “cause du jour” after so many decades of this happening, when Black people were never in the position of having nepo babies.
There seem to be a lot of issues that people are frustrated enough about to vent on social media, issues that no one ever seemed to be upset about before, but now that PoC are engaging in whatever it is, people feel a need to say something. Why couldn’t they be as silent as they were two decades ago when whatever it was was still happening (just not with PoC?)
