It is the norm in Black communities for at least one adult child to be in the house. (We have plenty of TV shows with this dynamic.) I came back home to live with my ailing Mom while in my twenties, and stayed with her, (and my two younger sisters), until they moved out on their own, and she passed. My brother lived next door or down the street and frequently popped in. My brother was tasked to look after my well being, and lives next door, so now I see him nearly every day.

My Asian coworkers always thought it commendable that, since I was the oldest daughter, and unmarried, I stayed in the home to take care of Mom. Apparently that is a common thing in China, and for children to live with their parents well into their adulthood in other parts of the world.
