Indeed, they don’t deserve all of the blame. They make the kind of music they’ve been paid to make, and there’s plenty of blame to go around! It’s not just Black people making this music profitable! White suburban teens love it because they get to imagine being street toughs, and don’t care what the music does in our environments, or that it encourages Black men to kill each other. Suits are selling this music to them because they make it profitable. Every step along the way somebody white also benefits from it.
