I'm one of these people. I loved the movies The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings, but I never read the books until long after the trilogies were done. I still have not read any of The Hobbit beyond the first part of the trilogy, where the journey begins.

I couldn't stand the Amazon series. I thought it was kind of boring , and I didn't care for the characters very much. I am also NOT AT ALL attracted to High Fantasy, whether it's books or movies, so me reading The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings was a major event and real departure from my usual reading material. I will say though that I am just intrigued enough by some of the events in the series to read The Silmarillion, which I plan to tackle this Summer.
