I'm not sure that's true. I think some of them used to be Hippies, but there were plenty of people who were not. They were intolerant then, and continued to be bigoted and racially intolerant as they aged. Most of the ones who were Hippies are still Hippies, or they're dead.

One of the things about Hippies is that many of them were poor and poor people have a much shorter shelf life than middle class people. A lot of people didn't become Conservative as they got older, and the most rabid ones were always like that. A lot of people seem conservative now but were progressive when they were young. They simply didn't grow or change as they got older, while the rest of the world kept socially progressing. So now they look conservative compared to the rest of us.

And people, for some reason, just keep forgetting that Black and Indigenous people were alive back then too and they didn't become rabid trump supporters. Many of them are still very Liberal.
