I was just on Tumblr, where the most common critiques I saw, were people saying that they were tired of writers using Black trauma as entertainment, with many people questioning exactly who these entertainments are created for. (They weren’t just criticizing them, but several other series, although Lovecraft Country wasn’t among them.)

And several people did make the point you made, that THEM was several hours of trauma, presented to no purpose. One of the other positive critiques of Lovecraft Country, was that the Black people in that series weren’t alone in dealing with racial animosity. There was a community, and teamwork in overcoming racial trauma.
