I used to tell my friends that there are a bunch of things happening in the world about which they are wholly ignorant, and just because they're just finding out about something in the moment, doesn't mean it wasn't happening before.

One example I used was people asking me "why don't Black people do...name something..."

I would tell them we do all of those things. Just because the media doesn't cover it doesn't meant it aint happening. We have institutions and organizations all over Black neighborhoods that you've never heard of, to decrease violence, alleviate poverty, encourage education, offering scholarships, etc. Mainstream media isn't the only place to get information,.
