I think the argument could be made that America never stopped engaging in genocide and atrocity. There was forced assimilation of Indigenous children right up to the 70s, the foundation of the crack epidermic, and drug wars have been well documented, forced sterilization of women of color, right up until the 90s, mass incarceration, and look at what’s happening at our borders with forced separation of families.

America has NEVER stopped engaging in atrocity against its most powerless citizens.
