I think it started with the invention of social media twenty years ago. This massive backlash we are seeing, from straight, white men, attempting to re-assert a massive loss of cultural/social power is the culmination of two decades of everyone they used to be able to oppress with impunity, talking back to them, refuting them, fighting them, and trying to hold them accountable, all over social media, and they are seriously pissed about that.

Attempting to re-take control of social media was the first step in trying to get us to shut up, or hold these rich white men to account for the last four hundred years of bad behavior. One thing they do not like is the peons talking back to them, and they have always been terrified of rebellion. And a slow and relentless cultural/social rebellion is what they've been experiencing for the past twenty to thirty years, as each successive generation becomes more free.

Reactionism is by its very nature a failure, and this last attempt, by the old guard, (who remember the power they had in the 60s, 70s, and 80s), to re-take control of the social narrative, will also fail, because by its very nature they are reacting to something that has already happened. The fight is over. Its already a done deal. They cannot turn back the clock, or put the toothpaste back in the tube. At most they can be violent and hurt people, they can slow down any further progress, but cannot return this country back to the 50s, which is what they seem to want to do. Not only are none of us going back, it is impossible for us to do so.

All they can do is try to exhaust and terrorize us into submission, and that too has never worked! It ain't gonna start working now, no matter how many spineless corporations cave to authoritarian demands.
