I think if someone is going to do the "expat" experience it should be on them to learn as much as they possibly can about the culture and country in which they intend to reside. That knowledge would definitely decrease the amount of friction they will have the residents. (There are too many people traveling to some of these places to exploit the country's poverty for their own agendas. )
