I think I avoid feeling too conflicted about Country because it’s mostly Old School like Dolly, Kenny Rogers, Johnny Cash, and Dwight Yoakam. Most of the new music I find these days is from movies and tv shows. Have you heard of a band called Gangstagrass? They did the theme song for the tv series Justified!

It turns out my two nieces who are 17 and 9 are both Dolly Parton fans and know all the words to Jolene. I just learned my 10 year old nephew knows all the words to Englebert Humperdinck’s Man Without Love because it was featured in a Marvel TV show. I got him to sing along to Guns and Roses in the car after watching the latest Thor movie.

Hopefully those days of Black people having guilty pleasure white people music will be over soon, and people will just listen to whatever brings the feels, without other Black people criticizing them.
