I see the connection of, emancipation leading to Black people being stereotyped as "lazy" (after they stopped working to make white men wealthy), and the link to the same attitude of wealthy men using that same term to describe all those people who refuse to cooperate in their own oppression.
It's not an accident that the phrase: People just don't want to work today, has made it into common use, by business owners.
