I said something very like this to one of my White co-workers, when she asked what I thought was the most important thing about my life. I told her that although my race isn’t of primary importance to me, that’s what I’d HAVE to choose, because Whiteness cared about it so much.

I have led a really interesting, fun, and tragic life, and being born with dark skin is very probably the least interesting thing about me. I have to pay attention to it though, because White supremacy, Whiteness, won’t just leave Black people alone to live their lives.

I wouldn't have to pay sooo much attention to my Blackness, if the ideas of Whiteness were not predicated on it.
